Over 340 children from 32 schools in Sofia (state, private and municipal) will take part in "Grassroots" - Mini World Championship 2018. The competition is organized by the Bulgarian Football Union and the Sofia Municipality in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the upcoming World Cup 2018 in Russia and on the occasion of Children`s Day – 1st June.
The draw for the tournament took place at Rodina Hall at “Vasil Levski National stadium.
Special guests of the event were the Vice President of the Bulgarian Football Union, Mihail Kasabov, as well as representatives of the embassies of Russia, Brazil, Denmark, Serbia and Morocco in Bulgaria, who met with the leaders and children of the schools which will defend the colors of their countries in the competition.
The tournament is part of the "Grassroots" program and the BFU's initiative for the development of children's and school football "Let's kick it!".
Within two days between May 29 and 30, second and third-graders from the capital will have the opportunity to practice their favorite game, to demonstrate their skills, to get inspired and to feel the atmosphere of “Vasil Levski” stadium, which became the arena of one of the most remarkable and historical successes of Bulgarian football over the years.
The teams will go through a group stage first, followed by an elimination phase and a final.
The tournament`s goal is to promote a message of tolerance, fair play, and to create conditions for equal inclusion of girls and boys in a sports race.
The Bulgarian Football Union and Sofia Municipality will provide all sorts of prizes for the students and their schools.
