The Executive Committee of the Bulgarian Football Union confirmed Krasimir Balakov for the position of head coach of the Bulgarian national team. The current manager of Etar (Veliko Tarnovo) will take over the side immediately after the end of the First League season and will be at the helm for the upcoming European qualifiers against the Czech Republic on June 7thand against Kosovo on June 10th. Mr. Balakov’s coaching staff will consist of assistants Yoncho Arsov and Stanislav Genchev, goalkeeping coach Kaloyan Chakarov and data analyst Ivan Slavov.
“I am extremely happy that one of the biggest names in Bulgarian sporting history has agreed to a long-term commitment with the national team. It is a great privilege that Krasimir Balakov will lead the side to the UEFA EURO 2020”, said BFU president Mr. Borislav Mihaylov.
The new head coach thanked the union’s governing body and said that this position is the biggest coaching challenge of his career. “I truly hope that together with my staff we will be able to implement an attractive style which I believe may prove to be successful”, said Balakov.
