Lokomotiv (Plovdiv) captain Dimitar Iliev was voted Bulgarian Footballer of the Year for 2019 in the annual awards organized by "Daks Media", the Bulgarian Football Union and the Bulgarian Association of Sports Journalists. The attacking midfielder won the first place with 216 points, leaving behind him Ludogorets left back Anton Nedyalkov and Slovan (Bratislava) skipper Vasil Bozhikov. The rest of the players voted in the Top 10 include former national team captain Ivelin Popov, last year's winner Kiril Despodov, Todor Nedelev, Georgi Iliev, Martin Kamburov, Georgi Kostadinov and Stanislav Kostov.
Stoycho Mladenov was awarded as manager of the year and his agent Mircho Dimitrov received the award from Bulgarian national team head coach Georgi Dermendzhiev. The former Bulgaria head coach Petar Hubchev was voted in second place and former national team assistant Stanislav Genchev finished third.
The individual awards for best players in the Bulgarian championship were won by Plamen Iliev (Ludogorets, goalkeeper), Anton Nedyalkov (Ludogorets, defender), Todor Nedelev (Botev Plovdiv, midfielder) and Dimitar Iliev (Lokomotiv Plovdiv, forward). Ludogorets striker Claudiu Keseru was voted best foreign player in the First League and Evdokiya Popadinova won her fourth consecutive prize as best female football player in Bulgaria.
Levski Sofia and Bulgaria U-21 starlet Stanislav Ivanov received his award for best young player in the country leaving behind Cherno more winger Martin Minchev and CSKA-Sofia midfielder Valentin Antov.
This year for the first time in history the organizers presented special awards to distinguished footballers who have never been voted number 1. The BFU interim president Michail Kassabov and the ExCo member Valentin Mihov recognized all-time greats Dimitar Yakimov, Nasko Sirakov, Bozhil Kolev and Dobromir Zhechev while "Daks Media" owner Vesela Lecheva presented former Lokomotiv (Plovdiv) midfielder Georgi Iliev with the prize for sporting longevity. National team goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov who came back to the field after a long battle with injury received the annual "Lion's Heart" prize in the name of the late Trifon Ivanov.
